How To Make Your Dream Pantry

Why not, it's yours!

Our new pantry

A well-organized and aesthetically pleasing pantry is the dream of every home cook and organization enthusiast... AKA Moms.šŸ˜ If you're tired of rummaging through cluttered shelves and want to transform your pantry into a functional and beautiful space, you've come to the right place. In this blog post, we'll guide you through the steps to create your dream pantry. My husband and I recently finished a 1,000 Sq ft addition that we did ourselves. So we were blessed with the opportunity to design our pantry into our plans, and we love it. But you don't have to add on to make your pantry yours.

Step 1: Planning and Inspiration

The first step in creating your dream pantry is to gather inspiration and plan your space. Start by researching pantry design ideas online, in magazines, or through home improvement shows. Consider your specific needs, style, and available space. Look for storage solutions, color schemes, and organizational tools that resonate with you.

We had always had very small "closet pantries" and decided while doing our addition that we were going to make a large functional pantry. it is 6x6x6 so it's got some good room, we knew we wanted lots of shelving space but also realized that we had the space for a countertop and some drawers. This opened a whole new level of function. I put my bigger appliances such as my dehydrator and bread maker on the counter and they stay there. ITS AMAZING.

Step 2: Declutter and Inventory

Whether you are starting new or using your current space it is always a good idea to declutter your current space. Remove all items from your pantry and take inventory of what you have. Discard expired or unused items, and consider donating non-perishable goods to local food banks. This step will help you start with a clean slate.

Step 3: Design and Layout

Once you have a clear picture of your pantry's inventory and your inspiration in mind, it's time to design the layout. Consider the following elements:

Shelving: Choose between open shelves, adjustable wire shelves, or custom-built cabinets to suit your needs.

And always have a hunk install them. ;) (This is my husband )

Containers: Invest in airtight containers for dry goods to keep them fresh and organized.

I love the airtight containers that I got, they came in multiple sizes and fit perfectly on my shelves. I love that they are clear so i can see exactly what is in each one.

Labels: Use labels to identify the contents of each container for easy access.

Pull-out drawers and baskets: These can be perfect for storing smaller items and maximizing space.

Drawers: With the cabinet bases, we were able to add drawers. It has been so helpful to have built-in drawers to put snacks, cookie cutters, potatoes, and onions. You name it, it's great!

Hooks and racks: Hang hooks and racks on the inside of the pantry door or on the walls for additional storage.

Lighting: Adequate lighting can make your pantry more functional and inviting. We have four can less lights in our pantry it is bright, making it easy to find everything you need. We also added a motion sensor light switch to our pantry, it is a game changer. I can just walk in with an arm full of groceries and the light turns on. I LOVE IT!

Step 4: Selecting Storage Solutions

Choose storage solutions that match your pantry's design and help you stay organized. Consider pull-out shelves, lazy Susans, wire baskets, and clear storage containers for easy access to your items. Adjustable shelves allow you to adapt the pantry to your needs over time.

Step 5: Color and Aesthetics

The aesthetic aspect of your dream pantry is just as crucial as its functionality. But is still fun, to select a color scheme that complements the rest of your kitchen and makes your pantry visually appealing. You can add wallpaper or paint the interior to give it a personal touch. We went simple with white and then the butcher block countertop. We love it.

Step 6: Installation and Organization

After planning and selecting your storage solutions, it's time to bring your dream pantry to life. Depending on your budget and skills, you may need to hire a professional for installation or opt for a DIY approach. As you organize your pantry, keep frequently used items at eye level for easy access.

Step 7: Maintaining Your Dream Pantry

To keep your dream pantry in pristine condition, commit to regular maintenance. Periodically check for expired items and replenish supplies. Label new items as they are added to maintain order. A well-maintained pantry will continue to serve you efficiently and beautifully.

Conclusion

Designing your dream pantry is a rewarding project that combines functionality and aesthetics. With careful planning, organization, and a little inspiration, you can create a pantry that not only keeps your kitchen well-stocked but also adds a touch of style to your home. Say goodbye to pantry chaos and hello to a well-organized, dream pantry that makes your life in the kitchen easier and more enjoyable.
