Why Plant-Based?

There are many reasons why!!

We have been plant-based for over 4 years now! We LOVE it. We frequently get asked are you done with your "diet" yet? And we have to remind our selves that, that is how a lot of the world lives, is with new diets all the time. But for us Plant-Based is a life style change not a diet. And feel amazing! Another thing people ask/assume is that we are living like a rabbit, only eating salads and such.🤣 Nope we eat GOOD! Plant-based has opened our eyes to so many new foods that we did not even know about and has pushed us to try new foods, we love trying new recipes and making our old favorites into plant based recipes. In recent years, plant-based diets have surged in popularity, and for good reason—numerous studies have highlighted the myriad health benefits associated with consuming more plant foods and fewer animal products. If you're considering transitioning to a plant-based diet but need some extra motivation, here are five compelling health reasons why going plant-based is a fantastic idea:

Reduced Risk of Chronic Diseases:

One of the most significant health benefits of a plant-based diet is its association with a reduced risk of chronic diseases. Research has consistently shown that diets rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, seeds, and legumes can lower the risk of conditions such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, hypertension, and certain types of cancer. The abundance of fiber, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants found in plant foods helps to protect against inflammation, oxidative stress, and cellular damage, promoting overall health and longevity.

Improved Heart Health: Heart disease remains the leading cause of death worldwide, but adopting a plant-based diet can significantly reduce the risk of developing this life-threatening condition. Plant-based diets are naturally low in saturated fats and cholesterol while being high in fiber and heart-healthy nutrients such as potassium and magnesium. By prioritizing plant foods over animal products, individuals can lower their blood pressure, improve cholesterol levels, reduce arterial plaque buildup, and decrease the risk of heart attacks and strokes. My Sweet husband always had high blood pressure, even the first year of us being married, I remember checking it frequently and not knowing how to help him. Since we went plant-based his blood pressure is perfect, Its amazing what healthy eating can do for your body!

Weight Management and Healthy Body Composition:

Plant-based diets tend to be lower in calories and higher in fiber compared to omnivorous diets, making them an effective tool for weight management and improving body composition. Whole plant foods are naturally filling and satiating, helping individuals feel satisfied while consuming fewer calories. Additionally, plant-based diets have been linked to lower body mass index (BMI), reduced waist circumference, and a lower prevalence of obesity. By focusing on plant-based foods, individuals can achieve and maintain a healthy weight more easily, reducing the risk of obesity-related health complications.

Improved Digestive Health:

Digestive issues are very common in all ages. I have always struggled with IBS and some gluten intolerance. My oldest son was always fighting constipation; to the point that we would have to couch him and rub his back, and through tears and blood streaked stools he would fight this battle over and over. My second son was looser than loose, we could not go on a walk around the loop without having to run home to the bathroom, which then led to stomach cramping. The Struggle was real. When we switched to plant-based we all noticed the changes. I felt all around better, my oldest son's constipation improved and he has not struggles since. My second oldest has regular bowel movements and the stomach aches have decreased. And my youngest two have never had any issues due to being born into a plant-based diet.

Plant-based diets are rich in dietary fiber, which plays a crucial role in supporting digestive health. Fiber helps regulate bowel movements, prevent constipation, and promote the growth of beneficial gut bacteria. By consuming a variety of plant foods, individuals can ensure they get an adequate intake of both soluble and insoluble fiber, which contributes to a healthy gut microbiome. A healthy gut microbiome is associated with better digestion, improved nutrient absorption, reduced inflammation, and a lower risk of digestive disorders such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and diverticulitis.

Lower Risk of Inflammatory Conditions:

Chronic inflammation is a contributing factor to many health conditions, including autoimmune diseases, arthritis, and neurodegenerative disorders. Plant-based diets are naturally anti-inflammatory, thanks to their abundance of antioxidants, phytonutrients, and omega-3 fatty acids. By incorporating more fruits, vegetables, herbs, spices, and healthy fats into their diet, individuals can help combat inflammation, reduce oxidative stress, and support overall immune function. Research suggests that plant-based diets may help alleviate symptoms associated with inflammatory conditions and improve overall quality of life.

In conclusion, transitioning to a plant-based diet can offer so many health benefits, including a reduced risk of chronic diseases, improved heart health, better weight management, enhanced digestive health, a lower risk of inflammatory conditions, and so so much more. By prioritizing plant foods and minimizing or eliminating animal products, individuals can nourish their bodies and optimize their health for years to come. So why not take the first step towards better health by incorporating more plant-based foods into your diet today? Your body will thank you for it.

Find your favorite milk alternative ( we like soy milk for cereal, and almond milk for cooking). Study the science behind it. We spent many hours while doing my BSN studying and making sure we were doing what our family need, we know how to get our protein and what vitamins we need. Studying it made it just more and more clear to us that this is what we want/need. The most important thing is to find what works for you and your family and what helps you feel the best YOU!!! I do it because I feel good and I know I'm helping keep my loved ones healthy! Let us know what you think, we love to hear from you!
